Orchestrating Socially Responsible Innovation in Pharma

5 November 2026 @ 9:30 am - 5:00 pm

On 5 November 2026, the Global Pharmaceutical and Society Studies (GPSS) Network will run a closed, interactive workshop with 50 participants under Chatham House rules at the Humanity Hub, The Hague, the Netherlands.

This workshop focuses on the role of ecosystem orchestrators in pharmaceutical innovation. These organisations draw people and organisations together, participate in several socially responsible collaborations, offer expertise on different parts of the road from bench to bedside, and so contribute to a sustainable ecosystem of socially responsible innovation.

This workshop will facilitate conversation and mutual learning among people involved in socially responsible innovation, particularly (but not exclusively) ecosystem orchestrators, and social scientists with expertise in these matters.

In the morning, confirmed speakers include:

  • Martin de Kort (REMEDi4ALL)
  • Els Torreele (Æqua)
  • Michelle Childs (Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative)
  • Saco de Visser (Centre for Future Affordable Sustainable Therapy Development, FAST)
  • Tineke Kleinhout-Vliek (University College Dublin)
The speakers will discuss how socially responsible innovation operates in pharma, what role(s) ecosystem orchestrators play, how the socially responsible mission is retained in day-to-day operations, and what opportunities they see to increase durability and impact.
In the afternoon, the group will tackle the interaction between socially responsible innovations and the pharma ecosystem with discussion questions pertaining to the role of orchestrators.
The discussions will culminate in a position paper on ecosystem orchestration in pharma that participants will be able to sign in due course.
