Training Resources for Drug Repurposing
The REMEDi4ALL Repurposing Hackathon is designed to help early career researchers learn by doing. Join a small team of international trainees keen to learn about the repurposing pathway on a week-long residential course where you aim to plan the development of a repurposing candidate for a specific patient community.

Who are they for?
- The structure of the REMEDi4ALL Hackathon is designed to build skills and knowledge of early career researchers with an interest in Drug Repurposing.
- The Hackathon is open to students and researchers of any nationality and at any stage of their career up to 2 years post PhD, with an interest in drug repurposing.
- You should have an excellent scientific track record and while it is not essential, previous experience in the drug repurposing field will be considered as a plus.
- We’ll accept up to 15 participants that will work on a repurposing challenge in multidisciplinary teams.
How do they work?
- In-person, residential training
- Advance registration required
- Small teams of early career researchers work on a project throughout the week
- Support through lectures and guidance of REMEDi4ALL experts, and external advisers, including patient experts
We want to:
- Empower ECRs to embrace drug repurposing for drug development
- Help adopt a “product development mindset”
- Support ECRs to gain proficiency and practical skills across pivotal phases of drug development
- Celebrate the diverse skill sets and collaborative approaches necessary for successful drug development (e.g., patient engagement, research synergy, and strategic market navigation)
- Cultivate critical thinking for drug repurposing
- To encourage a strong desire to deliver impact to patients
What will you learn?
The REMEDi4ALL hackathon aims to teach participants how to:
- Use computational tools to generate repurposing candidates suitable for a defined indication
- Narrow down potential repurposed drug options tailored to a particular indication
- Identify needs and knowledge gaps in a repurposing project, helping to define the path for a drug candidate
- Work together with other ECRs to complete a repurposing challenge

Past events
The 2024 Hackathon was held near Barcelona, Spain in May 2024. The event brought together 15 early career researchers from REMEDi4ALL institutions across Europe to work on drug repurposing solutions for rare neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs).
