
Chris Butler, FMedSci, trained in Medicine at the University of Cape Town, did doctoral work at the University of Wales College of Medicine, and studied Clinical Epidemiology at The University of Toronto. He is Professor of Primary Care at the University of Oxford, directing the Primary Care Clinical Trials Unit. His research focuses mainly on the diagnosis and management of infections. He has helped lead over 30 trials, including the PRINCIPLE and PANORAMIC national Urgent Public Health Trials, which together randomised over 40,000 people and evaluated nine COVID-19 treatments. Chris has published over 500 scientific papers and is an NIHR Senior Investigator.
