
Bruce Virgo is a retired international maritime lawyer (qualified in Australia, England/Wales, and Scotland), who previously worked in the City of London. Australian by birth, he has lived with his family in Edinburgh for over 20 years.
Following onset of symptoms in 2013, Bruce was diagnosed with a rarer form of MND in late 2014. Since May 2016, when progress of his MND forced him to relinquish full-time legal work, Bruce has been an active patient advocate participating in various research projects and studies concerning MND in Scotland, the UK, and internationally. Since 2018, he has been a member of the PPI for the MND-SMART Platform Trial, and in February 2020, he joined the Patient & Carer Advisory Council (PCAC) of the International Alliance of ALS/MND Associations. In 2023, he became a Patient Member of the Research Review Committee of the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.
