REMEDi4ALL is pleased to announce the publication of its Funders Network White Paper: a comprehensive overview of the shared challenges, strategic opportunities and collective ambitions shaping the global drug repurposing funding landscape.

“In this white paper we introduce the REMEDi4ALL Funders Network and outline the rationale of why we have come together as collaborators to address the structural issues that affect the drug repurposing funding landscape. We outline a roadmap to improve funding in drug repurposing and describe, to other key stakeholders, what is needed from a funders’ perspective to accelerate the repurposing path for the ultimate benefit of patients.”

A Global Network with a Shared Mission

Part of REMEDi4ALL, the Funders Network brings together a diverse group of public and private organisations committed to advancing drug repurposing. The network spans 13 countries across three continents, reflecting a uniquely broad and collaborative community. Members have collectively supported more than 600 repurposing projects to date.

The network’s aims to connect funders, reduce fragmentation, and enable more coordinated investment in repurposing efforts, ensuring that promising treatments can move towards patient access faster and more efficiently.

What the REMEDi4ALL White Paper Reveals

The White Paper outlines the structural issues that currently hinder the drug repurposing ecosystem:

  • Fragmented funding: gaps between phases delay development and create inefficiencies.
  • Knowledge asymmetries: uneven access to expertise limits translational success.
  • Narrow funding scope: focus restricted to specific diseases or geographies reduces collaboration and co‑funding opportunities.
  • Policy bottlenecks: regulatory and reimbursement frameworks slow adoption and limit patient access.

By bringing funders together, the REMEDi4ALL Funders Network aims to address these gaps, improve alignment, and elevate funding practices across the field. These efficiencies ultimately translate into faster development of new treatments for patients.

Building a Trusted and Effective Collaboration Model

The White Paper also details what is required to maintain a strong, functional network: clear governance structures, transparent decision‑making processes, confidentiality agreements and well‑defined membership criteria. These elements ensure that members can engage with confidence and work toward common goals with trust and clarity.

A Foundation for Long‑term Impact

Beyond mapping current challenges, the White Paper lays out the rationale for why funders have come together as collaborators and how coordinated action can reshape the future of repurposing. By fostering shared learning, supporting cross‑funder collaboration and aligning strategic priorities, the network can play an instrumental role in transforming the drug repurposing landscape across Europe and beyond.
