Prof. Zoltán Kaló, co-founder of REMEDi4ALL partner organisation Syreon Research Institute, has been appointed Director General of Hungary’s National Health Insurance Fund, taking up a senior leadership position within the newly formed Hungarian Government.

Prof. Kaló has been a long-standing contributor to European discussions on healthcare decision-making, value assessment and policy frameworks that support innovation and patient access. His appointment highlights the important link between research, policy and healthcare systems, and the role that evidence-informed decision-making can play in addressing public health challenges.

As part of this transition, Prof. Kaló has stepped down from his positions at Syreon, the organisation he helped grow into an internationally recognised research institute active across numerous European collaborative projects. As a partner in the REMEDi4ALL consortium, Syreon contributes expertise in health economics, health policy and sustainability, supporting efforts to address barriers that limit the development and uptake of repurposed medicines. This work helps inform more effective pathways for bringing treatments to patients, particularly in areas of unmet medical need.

The REMEDi4ALL consortium would like to thank Prof. Kaló for his contributions so far and look forward to welcoming Zoltán as a member of the REMEDi4ALL Policy Board to provide valuable input from the Hungarian government. More broadly, Syreon will continue working with REMEDi4ALL to advance sustainable, patient-centric drug repurposing across Europe.
