PK-PD modeling stands for pharmacokinetics-pharmacodynamics modeling. It’s a way to predict how a drug will work in the body by looking at two things:
- Pharmacokinetics (PK): how the body absorbs, distributes, metabolizes, and excretes the drug—essentially, what the body does to the drug.
- Pharmacodynamics (PD): how the drug affects the body, like how well it works and what effects it causes.
PK-PD modeling combines these two to help researchers understand the drug’s effects and optimize dosage, aiming for maximum benefit with minimal side effects. It’s especially useful in drug development and dose selection for clinical trials.
