A type of eligibility criteria (see term Eligibility criteria). Exclusion criteria are the specific characteristics or conditions that disqualify a person from participating in a clinical trial. These criteria are used to protect participants’ safety and ensure the study results are accurate, such as having a medical condition that could interfere with the trial or taking medications that might affect the study outcomes (see also Inclusion criteria).
