We had the chance to speak to Pan Pantziarka, Programme Director of Drug Repurposing at Anticancer Fund, about the REMEDi4ALL funding calls database and why it is an essential resource for those looking for drug repurposing funding calls.
What is the REMEDi4ALL funding calls database?
The REMEDi4ALL funding calls database is an online database of active funding calls that accept applications for drug repurposing products. It’s designed so that funders looking for applicants can publicise their funding calls, and project teams looking for repurposing funding can see what’s available.
Why was this database created?
There are various funding databases around, but none that specialise in repurposing projects. This means that funding calls specifically for repurposing may end up getting a lot of non-repurposing applications, and that those looking for funding may not be able to easily find the calls to apply for.
What key information can those looking for funding find?
The funding radar database captures information of disease areas, phases of project, types of funding, geography and so on. Registered users can set up a profile of the type of funding call they are looking for and then get alerts when a new one that matches the profile is added to the database.
What geographical regions does this database cover?
Pretty much globally – each call is tagged with the geographic regions that apply, whether it’s a single country, multiple countries, all of Europe or global.
Who will benefit most from this database?
I think it will help funders and researchers equally – and of course ultimately the more successful projects complete the closer we can get new treatments to patients, which is what we all want as our key outcome.
Where can those who are interested find the Funding Calls Database?
The Funding Calls Database is available on the REMEDi4ALL website by following this link.
The REMEDi4ALL Funders Network, led by ZonMw and in collaboration with the Anticancer Fund, aims to enhance high impact drug repurposing research. It comprises diverse funding entities – both public and private – from across the globe that are dedicated to advancing drug repurposing initiatives. Interested in learning more?
