Clinical Trials to Validate AI-Driven Drug Repurposing

Funder(s): Cures Within Reach,

Cures Within Reach (CWR) is seeking investigator-initiated, proof of concept, Phase I or Phase IIA clinical trials to validate artificial intelligence (AI)-driven repurposing opportunities in any unsolved disease, where the therapies supported by AI models are already approved. Eligible clinical repurposing trials must include AI-generated data as part of the preclinical support. Supporting data from any type of AI model is accepted, including models that are:

• developed/owned/controlled by nonprofit/academic/government institutions or for-profit companies
• open to public use or only accessible via collaboration.

While submissions in any disease area are eligible, CWR has a preference for clinical trials addressing rare diseases.

Repurposed therapies must be approved for human use by some regulatory agency and include drugs, biologics, eligible cellular/gene therapies or combination therapies. Repurposed therapies must be tested in an indication for which they are not already approved or used widely in clinical practice and may be added to current standard of care. While both on- and off-patent repurposed therapies are eligible, CWR has a preference for off-patent therapies.

Submissions can come from accredited academic and nonprofit research institutions and/or health systems located anywhere in the world. PIs at any career stage are eligible to apply.

CWR is accepting budgets of $100,000, which includes the required 10% institutional match, and will provide additional financial support for community engagement.

CWR has a 2-stage submission process, starting with a Letter of Intent (LOI). Full scientific details are not required at the LOI stage, but a summary of the AI model’s output/hypothesis and of the AI model(s) used to generate preclinical supporting data is required. Top scoring LOI submissions will be invited to submit a second stage full proposal.

Submit via ProposalCentral (https://www.proposalcentral.com), using the CWR Non-Disease Specific Repurposing Research program by 6:59pm U.S. Eastern Time on August 25, 2025.
