
Professor Dr. Marelise Eekhoff is an internist-endocrinologist working at the Department of Internal Medicine, Endocrinology and Metabolism of the University Medical Center Amsterdam, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Her work covers the domain of endocrine disorders (diabetes, adrenal disorders), with a specific focus on rare bone diseases. As leader of the international referral center for rare bone diseases in Amsterdam (member of the ERN BOND), she and her team focus specifically on progressive fibrodysplasia, in addition to other conditions such as osteogenesis imperfecta (OI), fibrous dysplasia, X-linked/genetic osteoporosis and Camurati Engelmann. With a multidisciplinary care and research team, they perform translational research, with the main goal of developing a therapy for rare diseases. Several international studies are ongoing, both in collaboration with pharmaceutical companies and university-driven, including the EU and IMI-funded phase 2 study STOPFOP. Marelise and her team use an integrated approach and, together with patients, patient organizations, other researchers and companies, contribute to improving the lives of patients with rare bone diseases.
